DIY Candles for Relaxation: A Creative and Calming Hobby

Making your own candles can be a therapeutic and rewarding hobby. Here’s a simple guide to creating your own relaxation candles.

Materials Needed

  • Soy wax flakes

  • Essential oils (lavender, chamomile, sandalwood)

  • Candle wicks

  • Containers (mason jars, tins)

  • Double boiler

  • Thermometer


  1. Melt the Wax: Using a double boiler, melt the soy wax flakes until fully liquefied.

  2. Add Scent: Once the wax reaches about 185°F, add your chosen essential oils. Typically, use about 1 oz of oil per pound of wax.

  3. Prepare Containers: Place the wick in the center of your container and secure it.

  4. Pour the Wax: Carefully pour the scented wax into the container, holding the wick in place.

  5. Cool and Set: Allow the candles to cool and harden for at least 24 hours before trimming the wick and lighting.
